A new restaurant in Copenhagen, Charlottenlund Izumi, designed by pan-projects studio, sees a blank chair designed by Mentsen for Zilio A&C, one of the project's most distinctive pieces of furniture. Founded in 2010, the Izumi brand is based on the fusion of Japanese and Nordic cultures.
Charlottenlund, the first of five restaurants opened by chef Hiroo Machida, best illustrates this happy combination through an internal design project that combines white with libon wood. It is a bright, relaxing space that allows full attention to the sensory experience of food.
Inspired by the paper partitions of traditional Japanese houses, the light weight of the walls is similar to the soft lines of the curved wooden paneling, reminiscent of traditional Danish carpentry. In this context, the choice of natural oak wood chair was ideal, both because of its strong formal and color resonance, and because the proposal perfectly reflects the basic idea of Izumi, which opens new possibilities for contact between east and west.
The handmade tradition of Zilio A&C product quality, coupled with Mentsen's vision of design influenced by Japanese aesthetics, allows people to always see the possibilities of combining things and being able to have a clear and frank internal dialogue with pan-projects design.
